Lead generation for exporters: building a pipeline that is not just a list

Buying a list is the easy part. This is about what to do with it so that three months later you have a pipeline rather than an untouched export file.

A list is not a pipeline

A pipeline has stages and movement. A list has rows. The conversion from one to the other is entirely in what you do after exporting: who you contact, in what order, saying what, and what you do with the response.

Segment before you contact anyone

Work the list in groups that share a reason to be contacted, because the message changes per group:

Sequence, do not blast

One email is not a campaign. A workable sequence is short: an opening that references something specific and verifiable about them, a follow-up with a concrete offer, and a closing note. Then stop. Sequences that run to eight messages damage your domain reputation and your credibility together.

Specificity is what earns the reply. "We saw you imported X from Y last year" is specific. "We are a leading manufacturer" is not.

Measure the thing that matters

Reply rate is not the goal; qualified conversations are. Track, per segment: how many contacts became replies, how many replies became calls, how many calls became samples or quotes. After one cycle you will know which segment deserves the next month of your time — which is knowledge no list can give you.

Keep the data current

Purchase patterns change. A list built this quarter will be materially stale in a year, because buyers stop, switch, or grow. Rebuilding it periodically is part of the process, not a one-off purchase.
